3.3.1 Oral Mucolytics

If good hydration is insufficient to aid expectoration, consider carbocisteine.

The duration of treatment should be based on patient symptoms, and may be for only a few days during exacerbations, or on a more regular basis to maintain airways free of secretions.

Regularly review ongoing benefit.
