9.6.7 Multivitamin preparations
Vitamins are rarely needed and patients should be encouraged to buy a general multivitamin and mineral product from a pharmacy.
Supply of vitamin and mineral preparations after bariatric surgery
The local provider will supply the first 6 weeks of oral vitamin and mineral supplements post surgery. Patients are then advised to purchase an appropriate supplement over the counter.
Vitamin B12 injection can be prescribed and administered by GPs for the duration of need
For specific conditions e.g. cystic fibrosis. Tablets to be taken three times a day and liquid 5ml daily in addition to the tablets. Liquid is included for use in disorders of carbohydrate or amino acid metabolism.
